How out of place any type of gypsy jewels seem in a desolately dreary cornfield. How out of place that cornfield is, next to a construction jungle of concrete mounds, cracked cement and precariously-placed rain puddles. Splash.

The mood is slightly dark, complimented by the jeweltone facets of mystic topaz and intensely rich golden accents. Surprisingly, my signature stardust mani (nail art tutorial on this coming soon!) directly reflected the grassy greens and buttercream yellows of our location. Strangely coincidental. Chunky heels and longline silhouettes offset the delightfully detailed adornments, and offer a contemporary starkness.

No trespassing, kids!

ritz to the rubble

Part Victorian, part punk rock - but totally glamorous - this chicly sharp statement necklace is one of my FAVORITES. I usually don't sketch out my designs before embarking on the actual assembly; I'm the type that, like a mad scientist, mixes a little of this and that, hoping the end result works in my favor. With this piece, the shine of the soft pearls and sparkle of the vintage brooch (used as a focal piece) seriously begged for some edge - cue the safety pins and dripping gunmetal chain. So much yes.

Keeping the palette restrained to neutrals and a deep navy gave sophistication to the piece and cut the cloying sweetness of the pearls. I tangled everything up, braiding chain and beads to give the notion of an unfinished aspect - a certain amount of grunge - as if it had been picked from the rubble.

Honestly, this lookbook lies somewhere in between….something. Buggy monster eyes, crumbling brick, acid-neon battle graffiti and oversized dumpsters clearly clash with milky pearls, iridescent  rhinestones and layers of sparkle. What a far cry from anyplace appropriate for a slinky metallic mesh dress, wide leg trousers, satin minidress, or even heels for that matter.

Featured (in order of appearance) are my Curacao Crystal Choker and Bodychain, Strawberries 'n Cream Necklace, pearl bangles and arrow earrings, Phantom of the Opera Necklace (individual post coming soon!), and Blueberries 'n Cream necklace (individual post also coming soon) with more pearl bangles.

…and don't forget to smile!
